Q: Refund and Transfer Policy
A: Refunds
Many racers question what the refund policy is.
Because we have to order t-shirts, food, j-johns, staff, etc. by the week prior to the race, the following policy is necessary.
The bottom line is this:
There are ABSOLUTELY NO CASH REFUNDS.
IF CEP is notified AT LEAST ONE (1) WEEK prior to the race, we will TRANSFER your application to another upcoming race.
ANYONE contacting us during the race week or at race site asking for a transfer to another race will be told that it is too late.
We are sorry that this policy may seem to be unforgiving, but too many people took advantage previously and it created a logistical and registration nightmare, not to mention the cost factor.

Q: Timing and Scoring Corrections - How Does This Happen?
A: Timing and Scoring Corrections
A number of people have asked how we deal with timing and scoring problems & questions. The answer(s) depend on WHEN we find out about those problems & questions.
ALL racers are told AT THE STARTING LINE as well as it being in the race rules, that it is the RACER'S RESPONSIBILITY to insure that the results that are posted AT RACE SITE have their correct time / finish shown.
After each race, we post at least 1 if not 2 partial results lists which are followed by a "protest" posting.
At that time, it is announced that the riders have 15 minutes to check the results and let one of our staff (present at the posting area) know if there are any problems or questions.
At the end of the protest period, we work on "fixing" any problems and answering any question with the posted results. At that point, a "final" posting is put up and the award ceremony follows quickly afterward.
ONCE THE PROTEST PERIOD ENDS, THE FINAL LISTING IS THE ONE WHERE THE AWARDS ARE ANNOUNCED FROM.
THE TOP 5 POSITIONS ARE "LOCKED" IN AND WILL NOT CHANGE.
If you miss the protest period, we will TRY to correct any errors or ommisions, but the longer you wait the less able we are to make those corrections.
BOTTOM LINE - TELL US AT THE RACE SITE IF YOU ARE OMMITED OR ANY OTHER PROBLEM AND WE WILL WORK HARD TO FIX IT. TELL US DAYS LATER AND WE WILL TRY AS TIME PERMITS BUT MIGHT NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO FIND OUT THE ANSWER TO YOUR PROBLEM - THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CORRECTNESS OF THE RESULTS LIES WITH THE RIDER!

Q: What is a Rock Crusher and What Are The Rules For This Category?
A: Rock Crusher Rules
In the Dust Devil Series, we have a category called Rock Crusher.
For men, the rules state that your weight must be 220 lbs or greater. For women, that weight must be 160 lbs. or greater.
ALL Men and Women entrants in the Rock Crusher category MUST weigh in prior to the start of the race and their weight must be at least the minimun category weight for their gender. The weighing will be done without any extraneous packs, water, etc.
Anyone who enters the Rock Crusher category and does not at least make the weight minimum by the race scale will be transfered into their age division beginner category.
ALL Rock Crusher participants will have their wave start tags checked for complience and be refused entry into the starting area if their wave start tag has not been validated by the registration staff.

Q: Upgrading Your NORBA Category
A: Upgrading Your NORBA Category
You can upgrade your NORBA category at any race site at any time!
To upgrade your NORBA racing category, just go to the NORBA booth at the race site and ask to be upgraded.
You must give them your current NORBA license which will then be upgraded on-site!
NOTICE!!!!!
Once you have upgraded your license, there IS NO TURNING BACK!!
There are no trial upgrades in NORBA!
NORBA Policy is that if you feel that you can/should race in a higher category, that is the category you need to be racing in.
Once you race in a higher category, you are in that category, PERIOD!
See the information about the NORBA downgrading policy for further information.

Q: How Can I Race In A Different Age Division From My True Race Age?
A: Racing Out of Your Correct Age Division.
If you want to race out of your correct age division - please read this entire article.
(This is talking about your RACING age - NOT your real age.)
Anyone can race out of their "correct" age division IF they follow these simple rules.
1. If you are less than 18 (RACING AGE) then you can ONLY race HIGHER (older) than your correct age division - UP TO THE 17 to 18 age division.
i.e. Your RACING age is 15 - then your correct age division is 15 to 16. You can ASK to race in the 17 to 18 age division.
2. If you are older than 18 (racing age), then you can only race LOWER then your correct age division. YOU CAN'T RACE LOWER THAN THE 19-24 DIVISION!
i.e. Assume you are a male racing age 36 - your correct age division is 35 to 39. You can ASK to race in the next lower age division (30 to 34).
3. Finally - If you want to do this, then that is the age division you must compete in throughout the entire series. You can not switch back and forth during the series.
**EVERY** RACE ENTRY MUST HAVE A NOTE STATING WHICH AGE DIVISION YOU WANT TO RACE IN ON A SEPERATE SHEET OF PAPER ATTACHED TO YOUR ENTRY FORM!!

Q: You CAN Race In Multiple Categories - Instructions Below
A: You CAN race in different Categories at the same race. That means you can sign up for Single Speed or Masters or Rock Crusher for Saturday's first race and still race in the Sport or Expert/Pro Category later on in the day.
To do this you pay an additional $15 for the second category, BUT - you MUST tell us which category you want to get Dust Devil Series points in.
YOU CAN NOT GET DUST DEVIL SERIES POINTS IN MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY!!!!!!
You will be issued TWO (2) DIFFERENT PLATES (one for each category you are racing in)!!
DO NOT MIX THEM UP AS YOU WILL BE DQ'ED WITH THE WRONG PLATE!!

Q: How Old Are You? - How To Calculate Your Dust Devil Series Racing Age.
A: How Old Are You?
For some reason, many riders, especially those new to the sport, don't understand what their racing age is.
THIS IS FOR JAN 1 2003 AND ON INTO THE YEAR
Figuring your racing age is simple. How old are you now? Do you have a birthday before December 31, 2003? If you have a birthday coming before Dec 31 of 2003, then your racing age is what your age will be then. If you don't have a birthday before December 31, 2003 - then your racing age is your current age.
BOTTOM LINE: ADD WHAT YOU THINK IS YOUR RACING AGE TO YOUR BIRTH YEAR. IT MUST ADD UP TO 2003 OR YOU ARE USING THE WRONG RACING AGE.

Q: How Can I Get Race Information?
A: This is an easy question to help with.
There are many ways to find out specific race information. They are:
1. The CEP web site - www.cepmtnbike.com - always has the most up to date race information. Just move your mouse to the name of the race you are interested in and click on that name. The specific information for that race will come up INCLUDING approximate start times of every age division.
2. All bike shops in Arizona are mailed race applications approximatly 6 weeks prior to each race. If your local bike shop for some reason doesn't have them, contact us using the contact link from this website and we will get some to them.
If you need information that is not included in the race application, please contact us by using the contact link on the home page of this website or call our answer line: (480) 315-1321.
